PC Farm (Bare metal)

Aside from its cloud offering, DaDesktop also lets you work with physical bare-metal desktops and servers.

This is meant for situations where each participant gets a dedicated physical machine. It has been used in the following scenarios, where participants require access to:

  1. a full server without any virtualization—often for performance reasons or license constraints (ONAP, OpenStack)
  2. hardware that cannot be virtualized, like certain GPUs, Mellanox cards (when firmware changes are part of the course), network gear, and the like

What’s more, this setup can be integrated into an existing physical classroom with very few changes. The trainer can then get the room ready remotely, without having to be there in person.

The Cloud Desktop used in the cloud can be directly deployed onto the participants’ own physical machines.

Requirement for onsite deployment

This solution requires the purchase of physical control cables (called ddnexus), which cost around 100 USD each per desktop.

You can test it out by selecting Metal PC when creating a Standalone or Fresh-start desktop.
